My Little Dictator is a satirical, battle visual novel, set in a parody universe version of WW2, where important leaders, generals and dictators have been transformed into cute anime girls. As well utilizing a traditional visual novel format, the game includes turn-based battle scenarios and decision branches based on player choices.
Comedy, satire, anti-war, action and romance. It is a silly, ridiculous and quirky videogame, but also deals with more complex themes of warfare, loss, jingoism and more.
The game starts out the same every time. You are Commander Yamato Yamamoto, sent to Europa on a secret mission as part of an exchange program, to work as an advisor for Adorofia Hitora in the upcoming war. From there, the choices you make will determine where your allegiances lie and which dictator/leader/commander you woo.
It's a mix. The game is set in a fictional parody universe, in which important figures of history have been replaced by cute anime girls. Names, locations, timing of events, historical encounters; these are unique parodies. Similar elements have been fictionalized and changed, either for comedic value, or to enhance the story. Technical items such as tanks, planes, ships, weapons and more, are intended to more accurately reflect their real-world counterparts.
Yes. As a parody-game, My Little Dictator features fictional characters, locations and events, and also plays on the stereotypes related to the actual history. The game features plenty of satirical material, and our intention is to criticize and ridicule historical dictators and generals, tyranny and military pomposity. Nazism, Fascism, Stalinism and Imperialism are all evil and flawed ideologies, and we don't support those that believe in, affiliate with or promote them. These historical figures and ideas were responsible for the deaths and suffering of millions worldwide, and we believe they deserve to be satirized and ridiculed.
We don't seek to make a very serious analysis of the subjects that are parodied, though our anti-war sentiments run throughout the story. By using comedy in parodying historical figures and dictators (and turning them into ridiculous anime girls), we can dispel some of the mystique surrounding their memory. This videogame does not seek to make any kind of revisionist interpretation in its parody of history. As well as satirizing the historical elements, we also parody modern popular culture, anime and otaku culture, internet culture and celebrity.
It's most likely old, out-of-date concept work intended for backers and fans only. My Little Dictator has been in development for several years since its initial Kickstarter campaign. We want to get the tone and parody right, and also make a really polished and enjoyable final game. There have been a lot of changes over the years to character names, locations, the storyline, the battle engine, and the extent of the parody and the satirical tone.
Because of this, there are a lot of old concept screenshots, artwork, imagery, videos, interviews and information that have been published over the years that will be out of date. We're doing our best to make sure that official, up-to-date information is available for interested players, but be aware that you may encounter old information and imagery that no longer reflects this game.
We certainly don't intend to offend or hurt anyone by creating this videogame. Deliberately trying to offend people is a lazy excuse for humor, and we don't wish to do this. This game has been in development for many years, as we have done our best to get the tone and the satire right, to ensure we're parodying exactly what we mean to parody.
We don't think the game is controversial, and don't intend to spark any controversy. For many, the Second World War remains a sensitive topic and, as such, they believe it should not be parodied in this manner. We think it's important to be able to parody these things openly, to criticize and satirize the dictators and figures of WW2, and by using humor in this game, allow some catharsis surrounding the subject. As an exercise in free speech, it's good that we can all express ourselves on important topics. As mentioned, we have no particular affiliations, do not condone or support any conduct depicted or parodied, and don't intend to do more here than create an engaging fictional interactive story.
Below you can find a disclaimer, making mention of the themes you will encounter in this game. As ever, we recommend player discretion and keeping an open mind.
